My name is Melissa. I wanted to give you a little background about myself and why I decided to start March On Events. I knew nothing about running until 2011 and ran my first race in 2014. I was instantly hooked with the camaderie, the atmosphere, the charities involved, and I could go on and on. What caught my eye at first were the medals. I researched every race, the charity they were helping, and the finisher medal. My biggest hangup was that I am not the best in big crowds. I'm super shy and an introvert. I'm also not a morning person and going to bed at 8pm on a Friday night wasn't fun for an early morning race. I also learned from my time in the military most didn't want to run for fun, when they were told to run mandatory during the work week, so I battled with trying to find a balance with what I wanted.
I set out to find evening runs but alot of military bases usually don't have running organizers in the area, so I would have to travel quite a bit to a good race, something I didn't feel like doing. After attempting other avenues, I decided to create my own vision of what I've been looking for in races I could do on my own time and still reach the charities I desire to help. My goal is bring awareness to small charities, disabilities that you may not know about, or invisible disabilities, many of which I have, and to get you moving. We are all impacted by someone who is sick, going through treatment, or ehom has passed away from an illness. It's hard and we have to muster the courage to keep going. March On is my meaning of marching in the military, but also marching on when we go thru something difficult like cancer, debilitating chronic pain, suicide, etc.
We March On with life because we need to keep going. So March On with me and run with a purpose, goal, or whatever you want to think of to get yourself going.
